TOP 6 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE A DOG WALKER DURING AND AFTER COVID-19 LOCKDOWN IN DUNSTABLE
Updated: Jul 5
Lets face it, being home-bound since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic has been a struggle but at the same time a blessing to so many people in so many different ways.
Living in Dunstable and close to The Chiltern Hills, I have been lucky to be able to escape the four walls and take advantage of our rolling countryside, dog walking with my family has been fantastic. With the beautiful weather we have been blessed with, I've taken the dogs for their daily short walks and long walks over Dunstable Downs, Totternhoe Knolls, Blows Downs, Green Lanes, Ivinghoe Beacon as well as hidden gems throughout Eaton Bray, Stanbridge, Ashridge and Cheddington. With our busy lifestyle, ensuring me and my family get out together on a regular basis has built great relationships not just with me, but also our dogs have been lucky to share more time with us and know they have loved every walk we have done together.
We are now at a different phase of lock-down but still having to stay alert and conform to Government Guidelines. Businesses are starting to re-open and pet and dog owners are returning to work. As much as I want to support my local businesses, it must be very hard to keep going through the closure of businesses and offices for this amount of time and to suddenly have to get back to our new normal.
During the lock-down there has been a surge in on-line searches for finding a new or adopting a dog or puppy from a rescue center. The most popular 'how to get a puppy' doubling so definitely a spike in demand (Source: CEO, The Dogs Trust, Talk Radio). If before lock-down you was talking about getting a new member of the family, you may have thought that being at home more was the perfect time to add your new addition.
Whether you are a new or experienced dog owner and have spent more than average time with your dedicated and trusted dog or puppy, when you do eventually get back to work and your normal lifestyle I would urge you to consider hiring a trusted, insured and experienced dog owner to continue the daily exercise, support and love they need to stay happy and healthy. Here are my 6 top reasons why you should consider hiring a dog walker if you live in Dunstable and our surrounding villages:
#1 YOU WORK LONG HOURS
By far the most popular reason. Working away means you cannot be at home for long periods of time. Not only does your dog miss you they need toilet breaks and stimulation throughout their day, just like us humans !
The RSPCA recommended that any dog should not be left on their own for more than 4 hours a day and certainly not in their create if a puppy. However, as a dog walker and someone who visits dogs and puppies at home, I believe it's down to the individual dog and breed.
YOU ARE NOT A SUPERHERO ! Let's face it, you can't do everything but what you can do is make allowances for your dog to receive the same love and attention by hiring a dog walker to take care of your dog or puppy.
A dog or puppy is a pack animal so having you and your family home more is just the best. They love you and they want you to be with them all the time. Now, you know and I know this isn't always possible. A humans purpose is to work, to provide for our family, to do daily chores, do look after our own health and well-being and to not always be at home. To ensure your dog or puppy still receives their daily exercise hiring a dog walker that not only collects and drops your dog or puppy home safely as peace of mind. No one wants to be alone and dogs just love being outside in the open field. Not enough exercise can have a detrimental effect not only to your dog or puppy but also to you and your family. Anxiety can build up and you'll start to see changes in their behaviour including digging, barking, chewing and even aggression. You can view my Dog Walking Services HERE
Breeds such as Border Collies, Jack Russell Terriers and gun dogs, to name but a few, need regular exercise to stay happy and healthy.
#3 HEALTH & WELL-BEING
Having training in Dog First Aid, one of my main concerns is to know if your dog or puppy is fit and well. When visiting your home if providing my home visit services, or collecting your dog for their walk I will instantly know of any differences in their health and character and will notice signs of distress. If you are away from home your dogs health and well being is paramount to their safety and if required will always take action to ensure they receive the care and attention they need.
Dogs, like humans are social creatures and crave interaction and stimulation. A quick walk around the block provides a welcome break in the day during which time they get the much needed fresh air with with sights and smells of their neighborhood. Hiring a dog walker who also offers home visits is an extra comfort to them getting in to a routine that someone will be coming to spend time with them. You can view my Home Visit services HERE
#5 YOU HAVE AN EVENT OR PARTY TO ATTEND TO OR YOU JUST SIMPLY WANT TO SPEND A DAY SHOPPING
Not all our friends and family members are crazy dog lovers like us. A professional dog walker can ensure your dog or puppy doesn't miss out on being cared for, you don't feel like you're tied to the dog and you get to go and enjoy yourself. Just like a Baby Sitter, a Dog Sitter does exactly the same. We look after your pet whilst you are away from home. Visit my Dog Home Visits HERE
#6 YOU MAY HAVE HEALTH ISSUES YOURSELF AND APPRECIATE THE EXERCISE YOUR FOUR LEGGED FRIEND NEEDS
Whether it be a long term health condition or an unexpected time in your life you may need someone to care for you dog or puppy whilst you need time to manage yourself.
A dog walker can take away the stresses and offer regular walks and time with your companion but also absolutely love the time he or she returns to see you.
